I come to you with a new series that will ultimately prove one thing: who did it better? First up in the series is Rick Ross Vs. The Notorious B.I.G.
On March 3rd, 2014 Maybach Music Group founder Rick Ross released his sixth studio album titled Mastermind, where fans noticed something remarkable. When track number five played, old school Hip-Hop fans such as myself, immediately identified that the beat was in fact similar to the last track on The Notorious B.I.G’s Life After Death album. The word going around at the time was that Rick Ross is the new Biggie Smalls
Could this get any worse? Why yes it can. Diddy, who was the executive producer for the Wingstop eating Rapper’s album, agreed to the idea that Ross could use the Biggie beat and we all know Diddy and Biggie were tighter than a pair of skinny jeans on Justin Bieber.
There are also some interesting coincidences involved in this subject matter:
- Diddy produced both Life After Death and Mastermind
- Diddy is heard on both You’re Nobody (‘Til Somebody Kills You) and Nobody
- The Notorious B.I.G and Rick Ross released their albums in the same month; March
- The Notorious B.I.G and Rick Ross are both naturally big, which gives their flow an interesting flavour
Now, listen to both songs below, then vote on who did it better; Rick Ross or The Notorious B.I.G.
